Gentle, in-home care when it matters most

Unhurried, compassionate care in the comfort of your own home, with Dr. Bennett beside you every step of the way.

In-home pet euthanasia: what to expect

Choosing in-home euthanasia is an act of deep love. Because the unknown can feel frightening, we want to gently walk you through exactly what happens — so there are no surprises, only peace. If a specific question is on your mind, you may also find it answered in our frequently asked questions.

Before we arrive

When you call, you'll speak directly with Dr. Bennett or someone who will listen, answer your questions, and help you decide whether the time is right. Together we'll choose a day and time that suits your family, and you can prepare your pet's favorite blanket, treats, or resting spot.

When we're with you

  1. We arrive quietly, without rush. This time belongs to you and your pet.
  2. We help your pet relax. Your companion first receives a gentle sedative and drifts into a deep, comfortable, pain-free sleep — often in your arms or their favorite place.
  3. The final step is peaceful and painless. Once your pet is fully asleep and feeling nothing, a final medication allows their heart to gently slow and stop. Most families tell us it was far more peaceful than they feared.
  4. You take all the time you need. There is no clock. Stay with your friend as long as you wish, before and after.

From the moment we arrive, we keep the practical details as light as possible — there is only a brief signing on an iPad, and any charges are arranged beforehand, so nothing interrupts your time together. After Dr. Bennett explains each step, the gentle sedation and the peaceful passing that follows usually take only about seven to ten minutes. When the goodbye is complete, Dr. Bennett will quietly step outside for five or ten minutes, so your family can have private, unhurried time with your companion. Most visits last around thirty minutes in all — but there is never a clock. How long we stay is entirely up to you, and to the time and support your family needs.

Room for everyone to say goodbye

You're welcome to have children, family members, and even other pets present if you wish. Sometimes it helps the people — and the animals — who shared a life with your companion to be there at the end. We'll gently guide you on what feels right for your household.

We bring this care to families throughout our East Bay service areas.

Quality-of-life & hospice support

One of the hardest questions a pet parent ever asks is “How will I know?” There is rarely a single, obvious moment — usually there's a window of time when a loving goodbye becomes the kindest gift you can give. We're glad to talk it through with you, and to offer hospice-style guidance focused on keeping your pet peaceful and comfortable in their final stage. No pressure, no judgment — just support.

Preparing for the visit

  • Choose a comfortable spot — a favorite bed, a sunny patch of floor, a familiar lap.
  • Gather what brings comfort — a beloved blanket, a special toy, a few favorite treats.
  • Invite who you need — you decide who is present.
  • Simply be together — a last slow walk, a favorite meal, a quiet afternoon nearby.
  • Don't worry about the practical details — we'll handle them gently when we arrive.

Aftercare & remembrance

When the goodbye is complete, we'll gently care for your companion and guide you through aftercare at whatever pace feels right. Cremation is handled with dignity through a respected pet memorial park, and you are free to choose the option that feels right for your family.

Private cremation

Your pet is cremated individually — alone in the cremation chamber — and their ashes are returned to you, along with a certificate of private cremation. You may choose how they come home, from a simple biodegradable scatter tube to a cedar, carved-wood, or metal keepsake urn. This is the option for families who wish to keep their companion's ashes close.

Communal cremation

Your pet is cremated alongside other beloved companions, and the ashes are not returned. Instead, they are scattered with care throughout the memorial park's gardens — a peaceful, dignified resting place that you are always welcome to visit. Families who choose this option often keep a paw-print impression or a custom keepsake as a lasting memento.

Keepsakes

Whichever path you choose, gentle remembrances — paw-print impressions, fur clippings, and memorial mementos — can be arranged, so that a small piece of your companion always stays near.

We handle the difficult details

You won't need to manage any of the hard logistics. After the goodbye, Dr. Bennett personally takes your pet into our care for transport; for very large pets, we'll connect you with a trusted partner who can help. In most cases, your companion's ashes are returned to you within two to five weeks.
