Frequently asked questions
Your questions, gently answered
At one of life's hardest moments, you deserve clear, honest answers. If yours isn't here, please call (510) 640-7097 — Dr. Bennett is glad to talk it through with you.
How does an in-home goodbye work?
Dr. Bennett comes to your home at a scheduled time, without rush. Your pet first receives a gentle sedative and drifts into a deep, comfortable sleep. When they're fully asleep and feeling nothing, a final medication allows their heart to quietly slow and stop. You may stay with them as long as you wish, before and after.
Will my pet be in any pain?
No. Comfort is the entire purpose of what we do. The sedative ensures your companion is relaxed and pain-free before anything else happens, and the process itself is peaceful and painless.
Can my children or other pets be present?
Yes, if you wish. Many families find it brings comfort, and other pets often seem to understand. Dr. Bennett will gently guide you on what feels right for your household.
How soon can you come? Do you offer same-day visits?
Yes — in many cases we can come the same day. Our regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays until 2:00 p.m. If you're facing an urgent situation, please call (510) 640-7097 and we'll do everything we can to reach you quickly. Planned goodbyes can also be scheduled in advance for a day and time that suits your family.
What areas do you serve?
Pets for Angels provides in-home visits across the East Bay — Contra Costa, Alameda, and Solano counties — including Alamo, Walnut Creek, Concord, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Orinda, Moraga, Lafayette, El Sobrante, Hercules, San Pablo, Clayton, Richmond, Piedmont, Berkeley, Vallejo, and the Oakland Hills. Not sure if we cover your area? Just call (510) 640-7097.
What does it cost?
Every goodbye is a little different, so we provide a clear, individual estimate based on your pet and your wishes — and our pricing is very competitive. Please call (510) 640-7097 for an estimate; we're glad to walk you through everything with no pressure and no obligation.
What happens afterward — can I keep my pet's ashes?
Yes. We'll guide you through cremation and keepsake options at whatever pace feels right, and your pet's ashes can be returned to you privately if you choose.
What if I'm not sure it's time?
That uncertainty is one of the most common — and most loving — feelings there is. Please see our guidance on assessing quality of life, or simply call. We'll talk it through with you, without pressure and without judgment.
Which animals do you care for?
We provide gentle end-of-life care for dogs and cats of every size — from the smallest kitten to the largest dog. There is no size limit; every companion deserves a peaceful, dignified goodbye at home.
Do I need to do anything to prepare?
Only what feels right to you. Choose a comfortable, familiar spot, gather a favorite blanket or treats if you'd like, and invite whoever you want to be there. We'll handle all the practical details when we arrive.
